The villagers at Anuradhapura, Shavasthripura, Thalawa and Ulukkulama were threatened by a wild elephant. As a result of the complains of the villagers the officers of the Department of Wildlife Conservation were able to capture this giant by anesthetizing in Shavasthripura area and he is in a critical condition. Officers say that by the time they captured the elephant, he was severely injured due to gun shots. It was planned to give immediate medical care and release him in to the wild but due to his present condition its been difficult to take him. Though the chains were detached elephant is unable to stand up and lying down helplessly.
