200 Wild Elephants and 35 People Were Dead Over the Last Year in Sri Lanka.
According to the Department of Wild Life Conservation, Sri Lanka 200 wild elephant and 35 people were dead over the last year due to the Elephant- Human conflict. In year 2010 230 wild elephants were dead and these numbers are frustrating. In this year around 100 elephants were dead due to gun shots and others were dead in various ways according to the Director of DWC.
It is certain that immediate actions have to be taken to stop this conflict before these number become any larger next year. Electric fences must be built and the existing fences should be repaired in the endangered areas. The DWC states that public awareness is a must regarding this issue.
